AAPSU protest at Chinese embassy, taken into custody
ITANAGAR, Nov 4: The All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union (A.A.P.S.U) in continuing with its protest against the Chinese claim over the state of Arunachal Pradesh today demonstrated in front of the Chinese embassy.
Five members of the Union were taken into custody at Chanakyapuri police station and held up for four (4) hours as they tried to break into the embassy premises.
Along with others, General Secretary Tujum Poym, vice president Nabam Tamar and spokesperson Tobom Dai, along with General Secretary Rajiv Gandhi Students Union Lingdum Taha, General Secretary All Tirap Students’ Union Noksa Saham were arrested. They were later released on personal bonds.
Some 200 students from different universities and colleges of the national capital took part at the protest rally.
Its President Takam Tatung while addressing the press persons at press club of India Raisina Road New Delhi told that the people of the state particularly the youths completely reject the Chinese claim and term it as just the figment of the Chinese leadership lustful thinking.
Tatung also attributed the Chinese claim to abject underdevelopment prevailing in the strategic located border state, which needs special attention from the central government.
The union while stepping up its protest a notch higher shall organize a candle light march at Jawaharlal Nehru University (J.N.U) campus tomorrow. They are likely to be joined by students from different countries of the world.
Lowandong elected Speaker with Taloh as deputy
ITANAGAR, Nov 4: Congress candidates Wanglin Lowangdong and Tapang Taloh were today elected to the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly today.
Lowangdong and Taloh, elected to the assembly for second time, were declared elected unopposed.
Thanking all the members of the house for their unconditional support extended to him for the coveted post, Lowangdong assured to uphold dignity of the house and sought cooperation from all in delivering impartial duty in conduct of business in the house.
Deputy Speaker, Tapang Taloh while thanking the members assured to perform his duty sincerely.
Setong Sena, the outgoing Speaker was the first one to speak. Soft spoken and credited as one of the best speakers state has seen, Sena expressed the hope that the new Speaker would ensure a vibrant assembly with important questions and discussion. The Speaker is the judge and guardian to ensure that it does, he said.
Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, who along with representatives of all the parties escorted the new incumbents to their chairs, expressed the hope that Speaker and his deputy would take the house forward.
Laeta Umbrey of AITC suggested that sessions be prolonged to facilitate members to discuss issues at a length. He felt that sessions are of very short duration, which leaves little scope for covering all issues pertaining to the state.
Minister Tako Dabi expressed the hope that members would put more effort to take part in the proceedings of the house.
Markio Tado of PPA asked the Speaker to ensure that members irrespective of party lines get chance express themselves.
The house witnessed some tensed moments when Rajesh Tacho, a former deputy speaker recalled instances when party in power put pressure to bar some members from speaking.
Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said that those days of dictations are over and that his government will never put any pressure on the chair of the speaker and deputy.

Students serve ultimatum to DC
ANINI, Nov 4: Students Union of Government Higher Secondary School, Anini has served 20 (twenty) days ultimatum to the district Authority to address the shortage of subjects teachers and posting of a regular principal, while threatening to close down academic sessions of schools including all the commercial institutions in Dibang Valley district.
Student body’s General Secretary, Gukhu Mega in his ultimatum submitted to Deputy Commissioner, Anini alleged that no concrete steps were taken till today despite repeated appeal made to the higher authorities.
He also alleged that those reliever teachers who were posted to Anini are camping at Lower Dibang Valley district without reporting to their original place of postings.
Castigating the lackadaisical attitude of concern authority, G S, Mega disclosed that the Government Higher Secondary School, Anini has been functioning without a regular Principal for last many years and facing shortage of subject teachers particularly for English, Science and mathematics that had badly hit the academic sessions as a result students are not doing well in board exams. Inaugurating the programme, attended by 100 participants that include villagers, government officials and others, Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri district Sadhana Deori said that the project has befitting objectives to conserve the rich biodiversity of the Ziro valley. She appealed to all the members of VBCCs and villagers to heartily participate in the project and ensure complete fulfillment of its objectives, therefore, conserving biodiversity. Sixty piglets were distributed among beneficiaries identified by the Village Biodiversity Conservation Councils constituted under this project in project villages.

Yeshi Tsering appointed Principal Secretary to CM
NAHARLAGUN: Yeshi Tsering, IAS has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister with additional charges of PWD, UD, Geology & Mining and Social Welfare until further orders.

My dream of a visionary leader in Arunachal Pradesh
Dear Editor,
Arunachal Pradesh today needs a visionary leader, a leader who considers his task to get his people from where they are to where they have never been. Quite simply, we need to look for a leader who can strive to help liberate the fullness of his people’s talents while he pursues a vision. And one of the things he needs to work the hardest is to develop an ability to be present based but future focused as well. A great leader needs to master the twin skills of managing the present while at the same time, inventing the future.
He must create, shape and nurture a new blueprint for the future.
Everyone says we are so fortunate to live in this age of information. But what must people fail to appreciate is that information alone is not power. Power and competitive advantage come only when sound information is decisively acted upon. The Right to Information Act is there in front of you. Unless you use it to contain underhand dealings, it is useless to talk of the growing corrupt system in our society. Can you think of anyone in this state who is truly committed to implement this Act in toto? The answer is positively a big NO.
A visionary leader ought to see himself as liberator rather than limiters of human talents; his priority is to develop his people’s potential. Every single person on this planet has a deeply felt desire to expand and improve as a person. We need a leader who could sincerely dedicate himself to liberating rather than stifling the talents of the people under his leadership. The bottom line is simply this: people who feel superb about themselves generate superb results. This leadership truth has stood the test of time. Never neglect it.
The bitter truth about Arunachal Politics is that most leaders have never offered their people opportunities to test and liberate the energies within them. Rather than showing them what success looks like and then letting them use their creativity and resourcefulness to get there, the vast majority of leaders micromanage and dictate the path to be followed at every step of the way. They treat their team members as children, as if they are absolutely incapable of independent thought. Infact, he is a true leader who produces leaders, not followers.
Over time, this type of leadership has stifled imagination, energy and spirit. Today we lack innovation, productivity and performance. ‘Leaders should lead as far as they can and then vanish,’ wrote H. G. Wells. ‘Their ashes should not chalk the fire they have lit’.
So allow your people to flourish as they work toward your shared vision. Visionary leader has the wisdom to push his people up rather than keep them down. “Two things are bad for the heart – running uphill and running down people”.
‘The unhappiness, unease and unrest in the world today are caused by people living far below their capacity’. So a visionary leader measures his success not by the extent of his power, but by how many lives he touches, how many lives he transforms and by the number of people he empowers.
Today we are at the crossroads where we have to urgently decide on our future. Let us decide that we shall live for our poorer brothers and sisters and in the process we shall be regarded as noble hearted and humanised as we deserve to be. Let us seek for such potential leadership which may help us on our path to glory and not condemn us to the dustbins in the history of mankind. Let there be a day when small children are taken to a poverty museum like a science museum where they shiver at the plight of the way people used to live in the last millennium. We need a Dream. A vision. A great Arunachal Dream.

Baseless Allegations
Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party towards the development that took place prior to the recently concluded assembly election.
Despite allotment of party ticket for Mukto assembly constituency, I could not live up to the great expectations of the people. I could not file nominations despite having done extensive campaign and won hearts and minds of people due to some compulsions (local in nature) and in the interest of the district which outweighed any other priority. I deeply regret having failed to live up to the party’s expectation despite people’s support.
Regarding the rumours making round the political circle alleging that I have backed out by accepting money, I would like to clarify that the allegations are purely figments of imagination of some vested interests who are trying to malign my clean image and destroy the credibility of the party. There is no iota of truth in it, the state party president may constitute an enquiry committee to unravel the truth.
However, accepting moral responsibility for dismal electoral performance in Tawang district, I do hereby tender my resignation from the post of district party president.
